Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best things you can do for your health. If you’re not sleeping well – especially as the nights start to cool down – it could be because your bedroom temperature is too high or too low.

Many sleep experts agree the temperature of your bedroom is relative to how well you sleep. Sleeping in cooler temperatures – between 65 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit – allows your body to easily reduce its core temperature and can help you achieve REM sleep more quickly.

Think about experimenting with fans, the thermostat, or (de)humidifiers to see what helps you sleep best:

Fans

Fans will keep you cool all night by blowing cool air on your skin, making it easier to lower your core temperature. They also continuously circulate the air, allowing you to breathe a little easier.

Using a fan also creates a soothing white noise for those who need a little help to fall (and stay) asleep.

Thermostat

The most efficient and effective way to keep your bedroom at the ideal temperature is to utilize the thermostat. Consider zone-controlled systems, which allow you to keep different rooms at different temperatures. Lowering the temperature in the bedrooms, without cooling the entire house, will help you save on your energy costs.

(De)Humidifiers

The air in your room will feel sultry and thick if the humidity is too high, leaving you with little space to breathe and relax. Humid rooms can also promote mold growth, which may affect your respiratory system.

On the flip side, a dry room can leave your throat dry and scratchy the next day.

It’s important the humidity level is just right to ensure you get the rest you need. If your room is too hot or too dry, consider a standalone humidifier or dehumidifier to leave your room as comfortable as possible.
