Allergies are the worst – runny nose, itchy eyes, scratchy throat, sneezing, sneezing, and more sneezing.

Did you know your HVAC system can help lessen your allergy symptoms? Routine maintenance can reduce the number of allergens, like mold, pet dander, and pollen, throughout the home and you help breathe easier.

Here are some tips for averting allergies with your HVAC system:

Change your filter regularly.

Your filter works hard within your HVAC system and needs to be changed regularly to ensure efficiency. Allergy sufferers should be prepared to change their filters more frequently to reduce debris and allergens from entering the air.

Not all filters are created equal.

We recommend pleated media or HEPA filters since they are more effective – removing nearly 99% of particles – and keep your system cleaner.

Leave the fan “on.”

Setting the fan to “on” keeps the air constantly circulating through the filter. Not only does this keep your home at a consistent temperature, it will constantly move allergens and debris toward the filter and away from you.

Keep your windows closed.

On a beautiful spring day its tempting to open the windows to feel a nice breeze or catch a whiff of the flowers in bloom; but open windows are a welcome invitation for pollen and other allergens to enter your home.
