A properly maintained HVAC system is one of the key components to ensure you, your family, your employees and your clients are comfortable all year long. Below are a few things you can do to make sure your HVAC system runs more efficiently than it has in the past.

Change the Air Filters

The HVAC system is constantly moving air. The dirtier the filter, the harder the system has to work; and the harder it works, the more likely the system will need to be repaired. Changing the filters regularly can increase efficiency by 5% to 15%. Use pleated filters rather than fiberglass filters. Pleated media or HEPA type filters are better at filtering the air and keeping your system clean; frequent inspections are recommended since they clog faster than fiberglass.

Clean the Air Vents

With so much movement, dust and dirt often build up around the air vents. Cleaning these occasionally will help keep your filters cleaner and your HVAC system running efficiently.

Keep the Area around the Unit(s) and Vents Clear

Maximize your HVAC system’s efficiency by keeping the area around your unit free of debris and shrubbery – approximately 12-16 inches around your outdoor unit is best.

Be sure to keep an eye on the vents, especially in children’s rooms, which may inadvertently be covered by blankets or toys. The more space a unit has to breathe, the steadier the flow of air.

Maintain Responsible Temperature Control

The colder (or warmer) you house, the harder the system has to work to reach and maintain that temperature. Switching off your system only makes more work for it when you turn it back on and is a contributing factor to system failure. Give your HVAC system a break while you are at work. Not only will this keep the system running well but, according to www.Energy.gov, it can substantially lower your energy bill. A programmable thermostat is a great way to maintain comfortable temperatures without disrupting your schedule.

Schedule Professional Maintenance Every Year
Your HVAC system works hard for you all year long. Having it serviced by professionals keeps it running at peak performance. Not only will A&A Mechanical’s technicians make adjustments to increase your system’s efficiency, they will look for minor issues that may become expensive repairs in the future.
